A Regional Legacy Soil Dataset for Prediction of Sand and Clay Content with Vis-Nir-Swir, in Southern Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Silva,Elisângela Benedet; Giasson,Élvio; Dotto,André Carnieletto; Caten,Alexandre ten; Demattê,José Alexandre Melo; Bacic,Ivan Luiz Zilli; Veiga,Milton da.
ABSTRACT The success of soil prediction by VIS-NIR-SWIR spectroscopy has led to considerable investment in large soil spectral libraries. The aims of this study were 1) to develop a soil VIS-NIR-SWIR spectroscopy approach using legacy soil samples to improve spectral soil information in a regional scale; (2) to compare six spectral preprocessing techniques; and (3) to compare the performance of linear and non-linear multivariate models for prediction of sand and clay content. A total of 1,534 legacy soil samples, stored by Epagri, were collected from agricultural areas in 2009 on a regional scale, covering 260 municipalities of Santa Catarina. Six spectral preprocessing techniques were applied and compared with reflectance spectra (control treatment) in...

Applicability of a distributed watershed pollution model in a data-poor environment in Santa Catarina State, Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Bacic,Ivan Luiz Zilli; Rossiter,David G.; Mannaerts,Christiaan Mathias.
Intensification of agricultural production without a sound management and regulations can lead to severe environmental problems, as in Western Santa Catarina State, Brazil, where intensive swine production has caused large accumulations of manure and consequently water pollution. Natural resource scientists are asked by decision-makers for advice on management and regulatory decisions. Distributed environmental models are useful tools, since they can be used to explore consequences of various management practices. However, in many areas of the world, quantitative data for model calibration and validation are lacking. The data-intensive distributed environmental model AgNPS was applied in a data-poor environment, the upper catchment (2,520 ha) of the...

Characterization and mapping of soil classes of the Lajeado Pessegueiro watershed in Santa Catarina, Brazil Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Nascimento Machado,Ludmila; Loss,Arcângelo; Bacic,Ivan Luiz Zilli; Dortzbach,Denilson; de Campos Lalane,Heloísa.
Abstract Pedological surveys and physiographic characterization of a watershed are fundamental procedures for planning the soil use. Thus, the aim of this study was to characterize and map the soil classes of the Lajeado Pessegueiro watershed, located in Guarujá do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The types of land use and occupation, slope classes and physiography of the study area were delineated and described. Data were collected from 19 complete soil profiles and 9 extra samples. Physiographic analysis was performed using prior information on the photopedology of the terrain geomorphological characteristics, climatic conditions, vegetation, land use and geological conditions. The watershed has a predominant undulating relief (406.51 ha). The predominant...

Individualization of soil classes by disaggregation of physiographic map polygons PAB
Costa,José Janderson Ferreira; Giasson,Elvio; Silva,Elisângela Benedet da; Campos,Alcinei Ribeiro; Machado,Israel Rosa; Bonfatti,Benito Roberto; Bacic,Ivan Luiz Zilli.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to disaggregate the polygons of physiographic map units in order to individualize the soil classes in each one, representing them as simple soil map units and generating a more detailed soil map than the original one, making these data more useful for future reference. A physiographic map, on a 1:25,000 scale, of the Tarumãzinho watershed, located in the municipality of Águas Frias, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, was used. For disaggregation, three geomorphometric parameters were applied: slope and landforms, both derived from the digital terrain model; and an elevation map. The boundaries of the physiographic units and the elevation, slope, and landform maps were subjected to cross tabulation to identify...
